Here at Presentation, we encourage all students to take part in some sort of extra- curricular activities, especially sports! Here are just a few recent sports matches and events that are students have gotten the chance to attend!
Kicking it off with Gaelic Football, 1st and 2nd year students played a blitz on the 10th of March in the Mount Sion pitches. They all got to play against St. Paul's, Mercy and Waterpark. They put up a strong fight and got through to the semi-finals where they were narrowly defeated by just 2 points. It was a superb performance from all the girls and was a great achievement to get that far! The coaches and students also greatly appreciated all the TY assistant coaches (Kyira Hennigan, Ellie Phelan, Niamh O’Keeffe and Lauren O’Sullivan) they were all a great help and offered up some great advice and tips that helped the girls stay motivated throughout the matches!
Badminton has also been a busy sport with students from 2nd to 5th year heading out to Ard Scoil na Mara to play a few matches! They all played amazingly and the under 19’s even won Runners Up’s in division 3!
2nd years have also been making the school proud as a few individual students are out achieving amazing sports accomplishments. Shauna O’Keefe is busy practicing for the Irish swimming Open set to take place in April, she also attended the Senior Interprovincial Schools and Munster's! Nicole McCarthy has also taken part in many Soccer matches, playing for The Munster Shield, All Ireland Shield (both played with Waterford) and in the Under 17’s Munster cup final with the Bohemians. Nicole is also set to play in the All-Ireland Semi-finals!. Roisin O’Connor has also been dancing her way up in achievements as she placed 5th overall winner in Waterford for Irish Dancing. Roisin placed 2nd in the treble reel, 3rd in Slip Jig, 4th in Blackbird and 5th in the Horn Pipe.
1st and 2nd years also got an opportunity to play a few basketball matches. They played 4 games and won 2 of them!
Running of with Athletics 1st years got to attend the East Munster Cross Country in Carriganore, where students placed 19th and 20th out of 30! Leah Barden also placed 49th out of 120 with Katie Power following up close behind with 51st place! The team are now hard at working practicing for the East Munster Track and Field in April!
We would also like to congratulate one of our own teachers (Geography and TY Co-Ordinator) Ms. O’Sullivan as she captained the county Soccer teamand led them all the way to win the Munster's. Well done everyone!
