On the 30th of January, the Pres soccer team were bustling with excitement as they headed for their very first game in the Munster League against Dungarvan College in the Villa.
Twenty-six girls participated, from the first years all the way to the fourth years, and there was huge support for the team both on and off the pitch. The first years came along to cheer on their team, and two even played their very first soccer game!
Soccer team captain Nicol McCarthy (plays for Bosh Waterford and Development Squad) led the team to their tremendous victory with a score of 12 – 1! This was an enormous triumph for the Pres, as the match was the soccer team’s first game in over a decade!
After an interview with soccer coach Ms. Watson, it was clear that this victory was a special one! “When Nicol scored the first goal, it made me very emotional, as it means so much to me, and I know it means a lot to the girls.” Ms Watson has high hopes for what is in store for the team and stated, “It’s the start of something wonderful, and I’m so glad to be a part of it. Watch this space ...”
The Pres soccer team is just getting started, as this is just one of three games in the Munster League. The girls have been busy training during lunchtimes every Friday, coached by Ms. Watson and TY soccer coaches Chole Byrne and Nicol McCarthy. The Pres is eagerly anticipating the team’s second game on February 28th. A truly commendable win for Pres!
